The full expression of this animal asana is cited within Scaravelli’s book Awakening the Spine.

In some traditions, the 8-angle pose (astavakrasana) is taught as a side crow variation such as in the Sivananda tradition as detailed in The Sivananda Companion to Yoga book and as captured in the image below by AA teacher George. Similarly, in some circles, scissoring one leg forward and the other back is also treated as a variation on side crow.

Side crow variation depicted by AA teacher George and fantastically with a mask! We promote the further imitation and embodiment of the animals we visit through postures using masks, just as many festivals and dances in India utilise animal masks.
